I took Bactrim for 8 days, which was prescribed by my ENT for a sinus infection. I got extremely sick, terrible headaches, sweats, jaundice, billirubin went to 9, alt was 800, ast 400, and I also dropped 22 pounds within 3 weeks of taking the Bactrim. I stopped taking Bactrim at the end of the eight days when I passed out. Anyways, I went to several doctors, had an ultrasound, had a CT Scan with contrast, I have had 15 blood tests, I also went to a hematologist who drew 9 vials and tested me, and all the results came back fine. My CT Scan with contrast came back clean. All my blood work is very good. Other then my ALT 87, AST 51, GGT 173, plattlets 166, cholesterol 202, Hemoglobin A1C 6.1%... I feel great, I do not drink alcohol, only water, I have a low fat diet, I excercise. I recently went to another Doctor
who is a Liver Specialist, and said he can't find anything. He said the next step is a Liver Biopsy, but said: If we do not have a diagnosis going into the biopsy, we usually come out without a diagnosis. I do not want to do a biospy. For me too many risks, and all my blood work is good. and the CT Scan showed nothing.
Are there anyother nonevasive tests I can take? I had been taking alot of vitamins, herbs and milk thistle over the last 14 months, and this doctor told me to completely be off everything. My levels have pretty much stayed this way for the last 8 months. 5 months ago, my ALT was 80, the I took 10,000 IU of vitamin D for 6 weeks, and it jumped up to 106, now that i am off it, it has come down to 80.
If I do nothing? What could be the end result? Also, Could it still be the side effects of the Bactrim?
Could my issues be my heart(GGT)? I feel great, no swealing, no sorness or pain.. Help?
