Teleprevir ??

Hello,  can you please tell me, do you know when Teleprevir will be available in the United Kingdom. I really would like to start treatment this year! Do you have to have been on the Interferon/Ribavarin prior, or can you just start the 3 combo (Teleprevir/Ribavarin/Interferon) straight away?

Hi Moon I am also in the Uk and live not far from you in Cornwall. for the last few days I have been at a HepC Conference in your town of Bristol...I was a speaker there talking about treatment from a patients perspective and the support I offer others..

I did also sit in on the other subjects and
Teleprevir was talked about by the Consultants  its been said it will hit our shores in 2011, and the trials here are going well....

If your able to wait, it could be worth thinking about, but this would mean keeping yourself as healthy as you can, no drinking if possible....

I have sent you a message in your inbox and hope to hear from you soon, Good Luck...PX

Moon,

I've got a good reference book on shelf that predicted teleprevir and more would be available in 2003.

I, along with everybody else, hope it gets approved soon. . . I agree that 2011 seems about right.

If I were waiting, I wouldn't stake my life on it though. There have been many delays and it's not impossible for there to be others.

Off the topic. . . it seems that people who have good general health and fitness are better able to tolerate tx and gain SVR. You might spend some of your wait time tuning your health up in ways that will help your tx experience be successful. How's your BMI, cholesterol, etc. Have you read about finding your HOMA before starting?

good  luck,

Max

It's conjecture at this point.  Since the Phase 3 trials just finished enrolling and dosing and it takes 18 months to complete the trial they cannot be done until late 2010.  I assume that it could take more than a few months for the FDA to approve the drug.  Realistically that makes it 2011 or by a miracle late late late 2010.  We don't know and it probably isn't important to peg it to a month.

I believe it could become the new SOC.  As is suggested here the pricing structure could make it more expensive than, lets say Boceprevir and so who knows what the insurance companies will opt for.  Treating once and clearing should prove cheaper than our current approximately 45% SVR rate for geno 1's.

Further..... If one can treat in 6 months with the same SVR rates as Boceprevir in 12 months..... I would wager that not having to buy 6 months of IFN and RBV could provide some savings.  No doubt that will be factored into their pricing.  Ultimately, nothing is more expensive than treating and failing.  Much of this we will have to see what develops.

best,
Willy

If you'd really like to start triple therapy this year and not wait until 2011, you could look into a trial, if available in the UK. HCA may know if this is possible.

What factors have contributed to your desire to treat this year rather than wait until 2011?

If I had known more when I started treating, I would have waited, since I could have afforded to wait. The jury is still out but the PI's are looking phenomenal, possibly heralding the most pivotal change in standard of care to be seen in years.

Are you currently in an urgent situation to treat?

The prediction is Teleprevir will be available sometime in 2011 in the United States.  It is still in the trial phase here.  No, you will not have to have been on peg inf/riba prior to receiving triple therapy.  It is the consensus that triple therapy will be the new standard of care once the protease inhibitors are approved by the FDA.  Sorry, don't know about the United Kingdom.

There is no chance of it being availible in the U.K this year.
Possibly 2011.It will have to be approved by NICE and budgets allocated.
It will come, but don't hold your breath.
