The reason the FibroSCAN has not been approved by the FDA here in the USA is data from trials proved it to be unreliable for middle stages. It was no better then the blood test FibroSure. As it looks right now it will never be approved here. It is used often in other countries where regulation is not as strict.
I do think it could be used along with other tests to get a good idea of a patients liver fibrosis.

Fibroscan is a non invasive Ultrasound Technique that measures liver stiffness .. the sound waves are sent by a hand held probe to 10 locations over the area of the liver . From the speed of the signal return liver stiffness is calculated .
