cirrhisis + hep

is it normal for someone with alcaholic cirrosis to have blood tsts for alpha fetoprotien which was 2.does it mean it might be hep c or cancer

Once again thankyou for your info, thats given me more peaci of mind than my dr, has.I got my sister off drink and so far she,s doing very well. she,s havibg a liver biopst. so all fingers crossed*thanx again

Hi Bunny,

Non-maternal AFP tests can be ordered as a diagnostic aid for HCC (primary liver cancer), and have no bearing on whether or not a patient is infected with Hep C. An AFP score of 2 is wonderful- I was told by my doctor that a patient can have significantly higher results without cancer being present. In the same breath, he said that result of 500 generally means there is something going on. You can research this further at:
