Treatment extension

Kind of bumming out. I finished the 12 weeks on the Incevik about 3 weeks ago and have been undetected. But the Dr. Just told me I have to do 9 months instead of 6 months. My guess is that it is because the first time I treated with peg/ribo for 48 weeks and was clear while on tx but relapsed post tx with in about 2 months.

Any other relapsers getting extended? I don't love it but was very sick for the last month on the Incevik, and still dealing with anemia and leukopenia. No way I can stay out of work that long. Uugh

Yes, they didn't do the 4 week. They did w
2 wk detected under 43, then 3 more which were undected, including the 12 week. It would really **** me they are extending three more months because they missed the 4 week. I see the big gun doc on Monday so will find out more about his thinking. I got the news of the extent ion from the PA

Wasn't there some confusion on whether you were und or not at week 8? They had forgot to do a 4 week pcr and your doctor called and said at week 8 you was not und but under 43 and it might have been caused due to dose reducing?

Statistically, relapsers with eRVR have around a 92% chance of SVR with 24 weeks of treatment and the Vertex protocol says those with eRVR require a total of 24 weeks only.  Relapsers have been shown to have the best odds of achieving SVR with the shortened treatment duration. Your doctor may think the odds of SVR are better by extending treatment but they're not.

Now if you have cirrhosis, you may benefit from 48 weeks of treatment.

Get that doc straightened out!  :)

make sure you read treatment guidelines for incivek and follow those, many docs are not familiar with incivek or victrelis guidelines.. we have to be willing to teach them.

Doesn't Incevik have it's own guidelines for treatment?  I'm not sure if it's fair to you to compare your results w/ SOC and apply that to your current treatment.  I do hope the best outcome for you.
