This is such wonderful news. Congratulations! You sound happy, as well you should be. :)
Congrats on the great news! Enjoy and stay healthy!
Congratulations on SVR12! What a huge victory! I am so glad for you, you have been a big support for people on this forum! Another dragon is slain! Live long and prosper Jimmy!
CONGRATULATIONS !!!
WELL DONE!!
Now without the hep C damaging your liver it looks like your cirrhosis is still early enough that it can reverse itself over time. Wow! Fantastic!
This is what we all hope for.
I will break down the findings of your CT scan into layman's terms so you can understand exactly what it means.
CT with contrast
Impression:
1. Cirrhotic liver morphology. No focal hepatic mass to suggest hepatocellular carcinoma. 2. Sequela of portal hypertension including mild splenomegaly and portosystemic collaterals. No ascites is seen. 3. Tiny nonobstructing left renal calculi. Bilateral renal cysts. 4. Diverticulosis.
(posted the complete details of CT in comment to SOV/RBV GT2 Post Treatment Journal SVR Sept 28, 2014)
1. "Morphology" describes the changes to the form and structure of the liver. When we develop cirrhosis the architecture/structure of our liver is changed and this can be seen easily in any imaging study like this CT scan. The typical signs of cirrhosis that can be seen are the nodular growths in the liver which can be seen on the surface of the liver. The liver may be shrunken in size. Changes to the sizes of different lobes may be seen, changes to heterogeneity (the uniformity) between pre and post IV contrast scans. Of course the particulars (degree and presence) can very from person to person.
2. The CT can also see the effects of portal hypertension(the resistance to blood flow through the liver caused by the scarring of cirrhosis). The good news is you only have MILD enlargement of the spleen, indicating less advanced portal hypertension which in turn means less advanced compensated cirrhosis. Excellent news! Also there will be less portal vein enlargement and all of the collateral veins (such as varices) created by the portal hypertension are also mild!
Note, these was no signs of ascites(fluid build up in your abdomen). An excellent finding! This means that the portal hypertension has not become advanced enough to start the development of ascites which can only be seen on imaging. This gives you a very good prognosis for your liver still being able to heal itself.
3. This talking about your kidneys. It appears you have cysts in both kidneys which are benign and not an issue and perhaps a small non-obstructing kidney stone in your left kidney.
Ever have a kidney stone before? Hopefully this one will pass as it is still small. Talk to your doctor about the kidney stone to see if that is a possible issue. (I have one now in my left ureter and will have surgery on Friday to blast the sucker out).
4. Diverticulosis of the colon is a common condition that afflicts about 50 percent of Americans by age 60 and nearly all by age 80. Only a small percentage of those with diverticulosis have symptoms, and even fewer will ever require surgery. Diverticula are pockets that develop in the colon wall, usually in the sigmoid or left colon, but may involve the entire colon.
In summary...
All looks very good for someone with cirrhosis and portal hypertension and most especially you should have a good chance of having your cirrhosis reverse itself. This is what everyone hopes for. It appears you treated in time before you were close to decompensation and irreversible liver disease which requires a transplant.
Be good to your liver and have periodic ultrasound and AFP tests done to make sure liver cancer doesn't develop. The risk of HCC is much reduced now that you are SVR but there is still a risk so best to be vigilant.
Wonderful news. Congratulations!
Much good health to you!
Hector
Thank you for all the nice encouraging replies. Just got out of work at 9:30 PM. Started at 9 AM with a couple of 45 min breaks. I do have to stand a lot and my legs and feet do ache a bit but am in good spirits. Not bad for "67 years young" I do get tired so drink about 3 to 4 cps of coffee and take 3 or 4. 5 mg oxycodone for pain a day.
I think I feel somewhat better now after treatment most of the time. Communicating with 99% smiling customers helps me get through the day. Having a positive attitude and just getting on with business is a great way to make it happen. Have no time for sitting on a pity pot.
I used to be real active in this form months prior to and during the first month of treatment . Asking/answering questions and giving support when I could. I have moved on with my life but will still try to show up here from time to time to update and provide support.
Have two suggestions for members. One provide a brief or more info about your HCV conditions, tx ect. somewhere in your profile so others can have a picture of your situation without having to scroll through pages of prior posts to maybe find it.. Second please come back even if it's months or a year to let us know how yo are doing. My prayers are especially with those who will be unable to do so.
Congratulations! This is wonderful news!!
That is SO wonderful Jimmy!!
Congrats!

I am anxious to hear what Hector has to say about regeneration, too, as I am under the understanding the clearing the virus can either stop forward progression, or cause some (no enumeration of how much some is as it seems different for different folks) regeneration. Enough to keep you from having to have a transplant? I certainly pray so. But, as I said, that is just my understanding - that is why I want to hear what Hector has to say.
Again congratulations on the SVR 12!!!! Pat
