amoxicillin and HCV

After my unsuccessful 48 weeks of traditional HCV treatment, I took amoxicillin as prescribed for pre dental work as I also have a total joint replacement.  I was alarmed that my viral load came roaring back only 3 months post treatment.  I wanted to know if there is any link to amoxicillin and feeding the HCV virus?

Many drugs are not good for your liver but it won't cause a relapse or prevent one from becoming SVR............ Good luck

Well this was good to read. I have to take amoxicillin also before dental work. I will ask my dentist about this. Yikes I want that SVR.
Sorry about your treatment, but good for you....not giving up!!!!!

Thank you.  Now that my Dr. has prescribed Azithromycin, I hope there won't be a negative reaction with my HCV.
I am not giving up after the relapse.  I am looking at non interferon treatments.

Thanks. My Dr. has changed the antibiotic to azithromycin for pre dental. I hope there's no adverse effect with my HCV.

Thanks, my treatment was the traditional weekly interferon injections and ribavirin daily pills.  I had read blogs of other HCV treated patients who had amoxicillin and showed a flare up of the virus.  I didn't have any scientific evidence.

Yes...it says you should talk to your doctor if you have liver disease ...before
taking this drug.   Many drug warnings say this.   Sad thing is many people don't know they have Hepatitis C.  I think we should just test everyone and
get it over with.   At least then you would know what you shouldn't be taking.
I took lots of  amoxicillin before I knew I had Hepatitis C.  I'm still here and
my liver is too.

I just saw my primary care doctor for a sinus infection who said that amoxicillin should never be prescribed to someone with HepC. She didn't say why, but obviously there's a very negative connection between amoxicillin and HepC.
I, too, am very sorry to hear about your relapse.  --Sue

There is no connection between amoxicillin and Hepatitis C.  Sorry you relapsed.  What treatment were you on?
