I agree with Hector.  What kind of doctor are you seeing to get these meds? Why can't that doctor help you get off of them?

I drive 30 miles to get to my Hepatologist every month. When it comes to your health, you do what you need to do.

As to your question about how long you can live with your condition... nobody knows the answer to that question, but I can say that things will only get worse if you don't treat the disease, and death from end stage liver disease is slow and agonizing. Something nobody would want to do if they had a choice.

Thanks for sharing your fears and concerns. Any of us would be concerned if we were in your position too. It appears you know what you must do but you are need assurance and support along the way.
Getting clean is the most important thing you can do right now. Then getting help with your cirrhosis is next.

Who prescribed these meds for you?
Do they know you have cirrhosis?
You say you have chronic pain? What is the pain caused by.

Do you understand that you are damaging your liver and making your liver disease progress even faster then it normally would by taking the Dilaudid . You need to get off the meds and see a hepatologist to treat your cirrhosis. I understand you are afraid of detoxing but have you ever thought about what will happen as your cirrhosis gets more advanced? Advanced liver disease can be a very nasty and fatal disease.

Go to a detox center somewhere anywhere. You need help. I don't understand why 25 miles is such a barrier? We are talking about making decisions that can affect your quality of life and the very ability to continue living.

Are you aware the as long as you are addicted to drugs you will not be eligible to receive a liver transplant?

The reason your platelets are so low is that your liver disease is so advanced. You can't turn the hands of time back but you can decide to take responsibility for you life and beat this thing.

I wish you the best. It will not be easy, but at 52 you must know that life isn't always easy or fair but we can make it through if we work at it.
