living with someone with hepatits

Iam currently in a relationship with someone who was diagnosed with hep c about 8 or 9 mo ago. He has been on the treatment for only about 2 1/2 months.  The side effects started as nothing but a few mood swings from time to time. Over the past few wks it has become much more than that.  He has started what i call snapping at any moment. One night in the middle of doing dishes he started lashing out at me and screaming every name in the book at me. The following week, his entire mental status seems to be deminishing. Starting late afternoon and early evening his memory and ability to even know his own name seems to disappear. He turned to eye on on the stove the other night without even realizing it, our whole kitchen ended up in smoke. He cant remember fixing himself things to eat or drink so he will end up with 2 plates or 5 cups sitting around.  He walks into a room and cannot remember why he is there and will pace the room forever trying to find himself.  Last night he blurted out "thats a side order" and starting talking about nachos and cheese while we were discussing something not related at all. Also putting things where they dont go, like ice cream in the fridge, pans in the oven with nothing in them. He cant remember anything the next morning. He doesnt remember phone calls, conversations, or anything at all.  We have a  little girl that just turned 2 and i am scared to even leave him alone with her for even a minute, i know he would never intentionally hurt her, but here lately with almost burning the house down, it scares me.  Has anyone out there ever been in this situation? If so, please help. Iam not sure what to do. He is on this medication for 48wks. He has only been taking it for 10.

I'm new to this site, I have been diagnosed with hepc, gen1b, biopsy showed grade1,score 1. I have just started tx. Did my 1st shot last week it was incredible the way I felt, I couldn't even bend my knees. But, I did get over that. But, one of the biggest problems I face is dealing with my boyfriend, he is jaundiced dignosed with hepc, cirrohis and liver lesions, his legs swell up and cramp so bad his toes get stuck. His stomach is big and hard as a rock. He doesn't sleep well. I have him on a real strict no sodium diet, lots of  fresh vegetables and fruit. He takes vitamins, uses honey for sugar and only olive oil as butter. His mood swings or horrible, he forgets things, blames everything on me, his job has failed. He went to a local hospital a month ago and they said they couldn't do a liver biopsy as it was to risky  because of his platelets. They tried to increase them but it was unsuccesful. They wanted him tom go to another hospital but said he has no insurance and they were unsure if that hospital would take him.  He has been stadily pushing me away, but, if it weren't for me he would have noone. Can anybody nout there help me with some information on how I can seek help for him even through some kind of a study? Because, he can't afford medical insurance. The dr's here say he needs a transplant. How does this disease progress and what are the final stages?

I just joined this community and am currenty going through treatment. Patience, support, space are just as important as anti-depressent, but anyone going thru treatment shouldn't be surprised by depression, mood swings, and brain fog. I am 35 and never had a problem w/ focus and concentration until treatment. My husband deals with my mood swings by getting away from me and I can totally get why, sometimes I cant' stand myself. PMS times 1000!!!! Hang in there girl and keep on keeping faith and prayer daily, my faith has been my saving grace. Esp. with a 16yrld, 6yr old and 3 yr old KNow he loves you and treatment isn't forever, just for now.

He needs immediate intervention from his medical team. Please print out your post and bring it to them, if he won't.

It is common to get cranky and absent-minded during tx but from what you describe, your baby is in potential danger, whether from your husband snapping or accidentally filling the house with smoke.

I hope he is seeing a highly-trained specialist, who has the knowledge to help him without jeopardizing his treatment, while still insuring that you and your baby remain safe.

Oh how I can sympathise with you..my husband has been on Tx twice and the first time he was psychotic and had these full blown rages,it was so difficult to live with him, at that time we had only been together a few months after meeting online while I was on treatment..I noticed a pattern with these rages they always seemed to be worse at the weekends he injected on the Tuesday...when we talk about his first treatment there are gaps where he has forgotten major things...Once we got him on A/Ds he changed and was able to continue with tx relatively safely.....

Your Hubby sounds like he needs Anti_Ds and quickly....

If you need a shoulder to cry on please feel free to Pm me.....PXX
