He had one protected episode of sex with a woman whose HSV2 status he doesn't even know. What do YOU think the odds are? They are low. Statistically, there's a 75% chance the woman wasn't even infected. Then the broad's husband tells this guy she's not infected and that if she were, "they wouldn't even be there." You can take it at face value, or you can take a pass on boning her if you don't believe it.
If she happened to be infected, again statistically, she is only shedding the virus on anywhere from 10-20% of all days in the year. She would be having an outbreak even fewer days than that. On top of which, he used a condom. Even if he hadn't, his risk would have been extremely low, like in the 1 in 1,000 range or something like it. Itwas ONE episode of sex. Low risk.
Plus there's other information missing here - does the OP even know his own status? Statistics again show that 90% of people walking around with HSV2 don't even know they have it. Who's to say he's not the one putting others at risk?
I guess my question would be - what is this guy doing at a swing party if he is this concerned about STDs? Not passing judgment on swing parties per se, just saying that if you have anxieties about this kind of thing, a swing party is probably not going to be something that *alleviates* that kind of anxiety. For obvious reasons, rates of STDs at swing parties are probably going to be no higher or lower than what they are in the general population - because that is who is attending these things!
I remain confused and have another question.
You responded to mdot's question saying, "no risk". Yet I've read here and other sites and even talked to my doctor and the same refrain repeats that you can contract hsv2 when wearing a condom.
What am I missing and why can't I wrap my head around this???
No risk. And HSV1 won't protect you.
