Not sure if I have GHSV1

I am female and had unprotected (genital to genital) intercourse. Two days later I began to get random itchy/pinching (felt like a single pubic hair was being pulled out) in pubic hair area, along with a feeling of general 'unease' in vagina. Within the next three weeks I experienced a variety of symptoms intermittently which I will describe. 'Zinging' nervy pain running down from my left buttock to thigh; itchy thighs; mega discharge (no odour, milky in colour); itchy/burning/angry labia and vagina (which felt initially like a yeast infection- but just not the same); slight swelling of right gland in groin; itchy anus; itchy tailbone. During this time I checked myself like a maniac and saw no lesions; I did, however, realize that they may be internal etc..

I tried to make a Dr. appnt. the DAY I started the symptoms- couldn't get an appnt. until the next month- I ended up going to an STI clinic where I was examined and the nurse said it didn't look like herpes, but I had a lot of discharge.
Tests came back neg. for everything I was tested for- she didn't swab for herpes because there were no lesions. She said I must have BV because of the discharge, but that wasn't concluded because I don't believe they tested for that- that was her speculation- she gave me antibiotics for BV but I didn't take them because I didn't know for sure.

In the interim, I waited the prescribed 4 months and got a blood test (Western Blot) ordered and tested positive for HSV 1, negative for HSV 2.

I trip out every day not knowing if it is oral or genital.... I've never had herpes lesions on my face.
But sometimes I do get "cracks" on the corners of my mouth which I always attributed to dryness... from what I've read, the chances of getting HSV1 from genital to genital intercourse is really rare, but the symptoms I experienced were not like anything I have felt before and read could be common in mild herpes cases.

It has been 9 months since this sexual encounter and every month right before my period I feel minor itching in pubic area, and sometimes in anus as well... now that I am so hypersensitive because of everything, I don't know if those symptoms mentioned in the beginning of this post were an initial episode of GHSV1 and I am now experiencing recurrent episodes, or what. OF course there is no way of really knowing without a swab now- so it sucks not knowing- and having to tell a potential partner,   "Oh, I have herpes, but I don't know for sure where". meh.

Any advice? Please. AND Thanks! :)

Don't assume you have genital HSV1 - itching alone is more indicative of a bacterial or fungal infection. Your description of symptoms was classic yeast - did they test for it? If you'd never been tested prior to that, you have no way of knowing if how long you've had HSV1. But either way, I highly doubt this is genital HSV1 (which is typically transmitted via oral sex).

I have genital HSV1 - and I get yeast infections. Herpes almost always involves ulcerations.

The next time you have symptoms, be seen to get a swab/culture for yeast and bacteria. The fact that it's coming in conjunction with your period also indicates one of those.

Thanks for the responses.

Is it really true that most herpes outbreaks involve ulceration? There is SO much contradictory information regarding this virus; it's frustrating.
As previously mentioned, I have never experienced ulcers, but the ubiquitous information stating that a person can have herpes with no symptoms or that an outbreak can be mistaken for a yeast infection is what concerned me in the first place.

It matters not which herpes you got. In the 70s Herpes Simplex 1 was above the waist and HSV2 was genital. I didn't know that they even staged them any longer, as herpes is herpes. Once you have it it is for life. You DO need to inform any future partners, regardless...even if you don't see/feel an outbreak. It's only fair to the person. Now a days there are good meds that not only help treat the outbreaks, but make the outbreaks last less time and not be as severe. Regardless,  get treated, TAKE THE MEDS, and tell any future partners. There ARE dating websites exclusively for people who have herpes, just as there are ones for HIV, HPV, Hep B,C too.
