24y/o just recently diagnosed with high BP. Insight? HELP!!!!

Hello everyone I am a 24y/o male 5'10" 230lbs I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. My doctor put me on 80mg of propranolol to help lower my BP. I wore a 24hr blood pressure monitor before being diagnosed and my average blood pressure was around 150/90. I don't understand why my blood pressure is so high? I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. I eat pretty healthy especially as of lately. I've been trying to excersize atleast 4 days a week (walking,golfing,kayaking etc). I am overweight and have been stressed this past few months with work, moving and my job. Also my anxiety has been through the roof for a while now. Could all that be contributing to my high BP? Trying to eat healthy, excersize and reduce my sodium intake. Anyone have any insight on what worked for them to lower their blood pressure and how many mg of sodium should I limit myself to per day?

It's a no-brainer. You are overweight. You have to lose weight.  Instead or propanalol your physician should have prescribed Lisonopril or Losartan. Try Lisonapril first. If there is coughing (a side effect) go to Losartan. Incidentally a blood pressure reading is meaningless without specifying the heart rate. Check your D3 levels and take supplements if the number is less than thirty. If your physician has prescribed propanalol with taking a D3 level get another doctor., A small universe of patients develop high blood pressure from D3 and/or calcium deficiency.

Hi.
I'm over 70 and was diagnosed with high blood pressure some 30 years ago.
I am just over 6' tall and at 230 I'd also be overweight.
The rule of thumb is, as your weight drops, blood pressure tends to follow in many cases. This is not to say that skinny people don't get hypertensive.

Wearing an ambulatory sphygmomanometer is no fun, and may only add to your anxiety which you said "has been through the roof for a while now."

You need to find a doctor who is willing to work with you. Your doctor must try to find a possible cause or causes of your hypertension. Checking the function of one's kidneys is usually one of the first and most obvious tests.

Please note that propranolol is not for treating hypertension per se. Also taking doses of 80mg of the stuff appears a bit much.

You need to do some research and inform yourself. Eating healthy and exercising is a definite plus even for people with normal blood pressure, but the role of sodium in hypertension is still under study.

Aside from the obvious, what worked for others in lowering their blood pressure should be only a loose reference. Your own biofeedback is the only way to know for sure.

I got a blood pressure monitor and a note book, and I've been keeping track of my blood pressure on a daily basis for years.
I record the approximate time of day I eat and what I eat, and I also record my blood pressure and heart rate.
I was amazed at the findings. LOL!
