Unknown Infection – please help:

Hi all,

I am looking for some help. Had sexual relations with a promiscous woman who has similar symptoms to me. I of course found out about this afterwards. I have had mild fever, shoulder muscle pain, calf muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, night sweats, white mouth sores on edge of tongue, and a light red rash on chest that goes away after about 15 min. This all occurred in weeks 4-8 after encounter. She told me she has had night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, sinus drainage, and an ear infection. She also said she had a UTI several months before we got together.
It has now been almost 9 months. I got checked for all STD’s multiple times– all have been negative. Specifically for HIV, what I was worried about the most, below is what came back. All tests done 6 weeks – 8 months post exposure.

RNA Test (x2) – Not Detected
Ag/Ab DUO Test (x3) – Negative
Antibody Test (x2) – Negative

More recently, I have recurring mouth sores with a red rash/patch on the roof of my mouth. This makes me very worried despite my routinely negative tests because symptoms began after this encounter. Nevertheless, I think it is viral because of these sores. But I don’t know for sure.

Her stupid self is too scared to be tested and I can’t do anything more to convince her. So my question is, has anyone else been through a similar type of experience? I can’t be the only one.  So does anyone else have ideas/suggestions at what this could be or what I should get checked for? Please help.

You are definitely not the only one, do you have any problems with anal / groin area itching? I had similar symptoms to you, and had every std test out there multiple times, it was negative. I feel like fungus plays a role in this, I'm not sure how. But yes eating well, low carb and low sugar seem to improve my symptoms.

the groin area is not so much a problem although i had some swelling there a few days after the encounter. Most of my issues involve shoulders and head. Right now, for example, I have pain and swelling in a lymph node behind ear. Anyone have any ideas?
Usually a swollen lymph node behind the ear is probably a virus or ear or throat infection. Is the lymph node small or large? It is normal for the lymph nodes to swell even when you don't have symptoms it means you are fighting something off. That is the job of the white blood cells inside the lymph nodes. It will pass.

Yes I understand. That being said I never really had this problem before until a few months ago, now it happens all the time. Plus it feels like my ear is clogged. I believe it is a virus or virus-related but I don't know what?
Sounds like you have an ear infection. Often they can be a virus or bacteria. there are a lot of reasons to get these. You should see your doctor. You can try an antihistamine and see if that helps. That may de-clog the ear and sinus and clear it up. But, sometimes they also give an antibiotic.

Saw a doctor yesterday. Turns out it was some fluid in the year, possibly due to mild allergies. It's basically the same experience when ears get "clogged" on a plane. Not an infection fortunately.

Doc said the bump wasn't a lymph node, just part of the ear. and it wasn't concerning to him. Lymph nodes are bean shaped apparently a sort of wobble when they are touched.

As for the mouth sores, I will get these worked out if I have another in the near future.

That is good. That is why I thought to try the antihistamine first. It dries up the fluid in the ears. Lymph nodes have to be about 10 mm to be enlarged and are usually spongy and roll around. But get painful usually with an infection. So maybe you were pressing on them too much. The mouth sores are nothing to worry about.

The 4th generation ag/ab test is the best test out there. You are negative. don't worry about HIV. The mouth sores are common and usually viral. They come and go. They can be Herpes type 1 (which about 90% of the adult population has) or can be due to hot drinks or other damage like that. I would gargle with warm salt water and you can check with your dentist about what they are but it is not HIV.

I tested negative for Herpes Type 1 too.
Could it be possible, no matter how unlikely, but could it be possible that I got infected with a really low amount of HIV and it’s not detectable now and there aren’t detectable antibodies since the amount of virus is so low my body only had a very light response?
No not possible. The test picks up microscopic levels of DNA then the virus reproduces right away and makes many copies of itself. The test you had picks up antigen and antibody so it doesn't matter if you hadn't made antibody yet.
