If you have fatty liver and elevated AST and ALT levels can statin drugs cause some of these problems or is fatty liver only caused by diabetes?

Can statins cause/effect fatty liver disease or is fatty liver disease only related to diabetes and obesity problems? I've been diagnosed with fatty liver disease, am diabetic and am obese. I am on a weight reducing diet, am taking statin medications, and cholesterol meds. Can anyone shed light onto other means of improving the fatty liver, decreasing its damage and stopping its effects  other thanwhat I am already doing? Advice is very much appreciated.

Hi there meg... Fatty Liver has shown up on a ct sacn of my abdomen, however, my specialist hasnt really homed in on the fact... and although Im currently taking Ursodeoxycholic Acid, a treatment for this disease; this is for the sludge the doc thinks is in the Common Bile Duct, even though the GB was removed last July.
I lost  alot of weight last year but was not really considered obese but was about 4 stone over weight, Iam 6ft tall and every active. I do not have diabetes either.
Today I have started the 'Liver Cleansing Diet' a detox 8-week programme to try to improve my own health and to rid the liver of many toxins which are the consequence of the drugs im currently taking for my gut dysfunction. Google it, its an Australian author, but available in America. (if thats where you live)! It states to reverse the Fatty Liver disease you currnetly have. Good luck:-)

From what I have read obesity and diabetes can be a contributing factor in developing fatty liver, hower many slender people develope the disease also, as heredity also plays a role.  The only treatment for fatty liver is a low fat diet.
