don't mean to be rude but yea. binge drinking could have killed me. you don't think about it much because "I" didn't do it everyday. Tried to quit alcohol on my own and had a seizure. Not a good idea. waiting for 2 weeks to get tested again.
adam - while I know this is scary for you, try not to get ahead of yourself. I drank regularly and heavily for several years, and now I am facing medical issues likely resulting from it. My point is that you don't want to be where I am. I know you are young and your buddies likely drink a good bit too, but your health really is most important.
Yes, heavy drinking damages the liver. There is some good news - the liver has a very good ability to heal itself if you remove whatever is causing the damage. So if you maintain a healthy lifestyle by completely abstaining from alcohol (preferable) or stick to recommended safe guidelines (I think it's 2 drinks/day for a guy), you might just be OK (assuming the alcohol is the cause - other diseases and conditions can also cause elevated liver enzymes). If you have a hard time sticking to those guidelines, it might be that you have an alcohol problem and there are many resources to help you with that. If you want to see something I wish I would have seen when I was your age as it relates to alcohol, find the BBC documentary "Rain in my Heart" on youtube.
I'm not a doctor, etc.... but I have been navigating similar issues the past 5 months. Good luck, man.
