I had an enlarged spleen prior to my liver transplant and afterwards still had extremely an low platelet count similar to your husband. I read that Vitamin C and Vitamin D helped improve platelet count so I tried 500mg of vitamin C ( Ester C which is more easily absorbed) and Vitamin D. If your husband does not get outside much he may have low Vitamin D levels.
My platelets started to rise and are now normal. This does not mean it was fixed by the vitamins, but it may be worth trying.

Hi there Marso,

I don't believe that dies plays a significant role in your Husband's low platelet count. I am surprised that his transplant hasn't addressed this problem. I am assuming that they still see his blood work.

I do not recall his Hep C status - whether he treated and cleared - but a low platelet count like his is often associated with cirrhosis. 23,000 is a pretty low count and though I have seen liver transplant recipients with borderline platelet counts due to, what I assume are, some bone marrow suppression issues 23,000 is too low. I would see his transplant team or a hepatologist knowledgeable about transplant issues.

Good luck,
Mike
