Symptons and a feeling of needing to breathe.

Hi, I'm a 51yr old male. I've been on simvastatin 40mg for a yr and a half. I've been working all my life in the construction game. Over this past 6 months or more i started having feet and knee problems and breathing heavily after walking up 3 flights of stairs. Soles and heels of feet are sore especially when getting out of bed in morning and when i'mon my knees i'm finding it hard to get up again. Recently i was taken into coronary care after experiencing chest pain and finding it hard to breath. tests were done and all came back clear. Still awaiting dye test. I stil have this breathing problem that just comes on. Its a feeling of needing to breathe and a warmness in the middle of my back. I have also pain in my right shoulder and the joints of my two small fingers in right hand.Upper back muscles are also sore. The feeling of breathlessness is the worrying symptom. Can someone say what is wrong and if statin causing it. Many Thanks, Stephen

Hi,
Your problem may be due to COPD, ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ) which affects the lungs. Atleast in one case, I know a COPD patient was misdiagnosed and treated as a heart patient for the first time, as the symptoms may look like that of a heart patient. If you are in the construction industry, it is more likely that you have this condition. The knee pain and sole pain may be due to statin, check with your doctor, and he may reduce the dosage.
Regarding COPD, have a look at the following site:
