What illness afflicted me? i don't know what caused this, or what exactly happened...

a couple months ago, i was lying down in bed, and i needed to go to the restroom, so i went in there, and was in there for about ten fifteen minutes. and i couldn't stop thinking about this movie and alternate universes, etc., but all of a sudden my vision was gone, i couldn't see anything! no forms of anything, just black, so i stood up, and started heading toward my room, where i could turn on a brighter light, but when i got out of the bathroom, i just collapsed, my legs weren't functioning, so i started calling out for my mum and dad, and my dad, had to carry me to my room, and my legs were just dragging along, although i was trying to help.
when we got in there, they got me on the bed, and i couldn't see still, nothing, nada.
my legs still weren't functioning, and my mum took my tempature, and i started running a tempature, and in my head i couldn't stop doing math, and thinking of alternate realities, and astrological signs in the sky, how math connected it all.
well, i was like that for about four five hours, and i tried sleeping, it didn't work. And after five hours,  i hear my mum and dad coming in my room to check on me, and i look to where her voice is, and i look around, because all of a sudden my vision was coming back to me, i could see the outline of the lamp to the side of me, and i could see the outline of my things and bedroom, and then my legs were functioning again, and then i could see alright again, my fever was still there, but after another hour, i was all better, so...my question is: what exactly happened to me?
because i have no clue what really happened to me.

Thank you for the information. The temporary loss of vision has become less. The other problems are still there.
I had thought that an ophthalmologist neurologist would have provided more information.
For the floaters, he stated that it was the normal process of aging.
With the rod/cone dystrophy, I understand that once there is a loss it's not going to get better.

I used to have a check up with the ophthalmologist every year and had a visul field done. The original doctor retired due to health problems and I now are under the care of a different doctor who deals with neurological problem of the eye. I only see him every 2 years. Luckily the visual field has remained the same about 15 degrees, but the central vision has changed some what again. I can deal with the los of peripheral vision but I hope that I will keep my central vision.

The link that you provided has good information in it but has me conerned that non of the doctors have mentioned anything. I hope that it is nothing serious that the doctors have failed to act on. I will have my next consultation in the new year and I will again bring this to his attention. I would think that if there has been something major being the problem, that they would have noticed it.

Sincerely,

Ron

Hi,
For temporary loss of vision, there are many reasons which finally affect the flow of blood to arteries/veins supplying blood to the eye , and in your case, the most probable cause appears to be hypertension.  For floaters and flashing lights also there are well known causes, have a look at the following link:

I have not had the exact same problems but I have experienced the following on accasions a few years back.
My vision would black out for seconds to minutes and than return. I also have experience seeying gray spots and at times flashes of light.
I have been seen by an ophthalmologist and have been diagnosed with rod/cone dystrophy. I have a visual field of about 15 degrees.

Lately I have not experienced the black outs but still experience the light flashes frequently and the gray spots now and than.

An no I'm not on drugs other than prescription drugs for hypertension neuropathic pain and urological problems. I know that some drugs like Detrol LA can cause blurred vision but I have not seen anything about the other two complaints.
The Ophthalmologist and neurologists have not been able to give me any answers.

Best regards.

Hi,
From your accounts, it  has similarity to TIA ( Transient Ischemic Attack ), all that it means is that blood supply to some vital parts of your brain got reduced/ cutoff temporarily.Have a look at the following link :

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/tia/tia.htm

Finally, as already advised above, it is essential to visit your doctor and find out the source of the problem and get it corrected to avoid any future occurrence of the condition.
Best of luck,

You most definitely need to see a doctor if you are not taking illegal drugs.

Sweetheart, either give up the drugs or go see a doctor. No, seriously, if you are having issues as you said in a previous post I would be going to the doctor. No one here is qualified to answer your question, they are all too busy worrying about the size of their penises.
