severe head pain

I don't think the headaches I have are migraines, but I have suffered migraines with halos in the past. I have recently had a CT and MRI and they were clean. My pain emits from the right sinus, it seems. I feel pain behind my eye, ear, cheek and temple. My CT did show the right maxillary sinus full of bone but my Dr. assured me that was irrelevent. I still feel pain through the Vicodin and am concerned about its continued use. I am scheduled to see a neurologist soon, but I would appreciate any advice. This pain is unbearable and has started me thinking about my mortality. Please help. Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for the updates. Indeed, keeping track of possible migraine triggers such as your caffeine intake, weather changes, food, and even activities such as lack of sleep or any physical exertion that happens prior to a headache. A pattern may be observed and the offending trigger may be avoided.  The headache journalwill also help the neurologist. Also, take the vicodin as prescribed to make sure that the headaches are not induced by overuse of pain medication.  Do keep us posted with your neurologist consultation. Best regards.

I don't think I have any other symptoms but I'm not sure what to look for. I do know that my pain is ridiculous and seemingly random. I have experienced one headache at 2-3 am on occasion but not daily. Should I be keeping track of my caffeine intake and possible weather changes? I have a hard time knowing when I have a mild one since I've been on vicodin.Thank you for your response and please reply again. Thanks.

Hi,
How are you? Are there other symptoms present? It is good to hear that both CT scan and MRI were clear. This could rule out structural or organic causes and highly suggests primary headaches such as migraine headaches. There are different migraine variants and you consultation with your doctor will be very beneficial. You could start a headache journal wherein you write possible triggers such as food or weather changes. Take your medications as prescribed by your doctor and not longer than intended. Take care and do keep us posted.
