Chronic Migraines & New symptoms

I am a 39 year old female & have had periodic migraines with aura since I was 13.  As I got older they gradually got worse.  I initially thought that I was having daily sinus headaches but was told by several doctors that these were milder version migraines, which worsen to severe, at least 2 to 3 times per month.  Approx. 3 months ago, the usual headaches continue but have been aggrevated by a new type.  With this new headach, for about 10-20 second at a time the back of my head feels as if it has a chill and feels as if it breaks out into chill bumps or tingles as if it fell asleep.  About 2 weeks ago (don't know how long it was there b/4 I found it), I found a lump on my skull behind the upper tip of my ear.  It feels boney to the touch.  The highest point of the swelling it slightly tender to the touch.  Went to the doctor, had a CT scan.  Results were that it was not the bone but rather a "soft tissue swelling".  Was told to use warm compresses and call if it worsens.  Given my history, I think that this is being taken lightly.  I haven't injured my head.  Why is there swelling?  What could this be?

Hi my name is kelly I am 38, I to always feel like i am going to die to young, I feel you think that from the name "dyoung". I have had a constant migrainf for 6 months now and while I am in the shower shampooing i am always feeling lumps that i think should be there simply because when i press on them they hurt so damn much. I never told my dr this simply because i have had a mri that was normal, I just figure the constant pressure in my head from these migraines must leave some bruising inside my head, sounds stupid I know, bur when i rub my head even when my headache isnt present it feels like i was beat with a baseball bat and I do feel lumps. Maybe its just our muscles. Our muscles must be tired from being sore all the time from these headaches. Kinda like when you exercise for thr first time in a long time and your muscles ache for a few days, except with out headached our vessels and muscles dont have time to heal because the headaches keep coming back. I dont know if this makes sense. Maybe Im trying to make myself  as well as you feel better. We both have the same symptoms.
Does this make any sense to you?  I hope you feel better. Im here if you ever wanna chat
kelly.  mommyscared feel free to check out my profile and pictures of my family.
PS YOUR NOT GOING TO DIE. YOULL BE OK

39 F, with "Mild migraines" from age 13, for 36 yrs

A new variety of headache for 3 mths, associated with altered sensation/ numbness on back of head.

You discovered a tender, bony lump on the side of your head near the ear. CT has cleared it as a 'soft tissue swelling'.

The soft tissue swelling may not have anything to do with what is going on inside the skull, as CT has cleared you.

The 'new variety' of pain with altered sensation, may or may not have a relation to the soft tissue swelling, depending on its 'connection' to the nerve supplying the back of head. (Do you get the tingling/ numbness etc on touching or pressing the swelling?)

Why is the swelling is a question to be answered. Usually if nothing serious, we wait for a while to see if it regresses, as it does so in inflammatory swellings. If it continues to grow, then the doctor takes next step to diagnose. It may be just a sebaceous cyst.

But don't let this worry you. You have already seen a doctor, a CT done is clean. Just follow your doctor's advice.

We will be interested in the follow up.

Hope this helps.

Best rgds,

Thomas Antony
