Diagnosed with Complex Migraines

Recently my neurologist diagnosed me with Complex Migraines. A few weeks ago, I had terrible migraine pain in the left side of my head, which was accompanied with some blind spots and sensitivity in my vision, for about a week. The pain from that went away but then I had a pins and needles (prickling) feeling on the left side of my face for one night and after that went away my right arm had the same sensation for about a week after. Finally all those symptoms went away, however lately I've noticed that my right hand sometimes throughout the day gets cold (only for a few moments) and my feet sometimes get the pricking feeling. Also every time I wake up, my arms have the prickling feeling for a few minutes. Has anyone else dealt with this? Also, could all these things be related? I had a CT scan done twice and it was "clean" both times. My neuro is holding off on an MRI because he wants me to try Amitriptyline 10MG at bedtime first. I haven't started yet because I had final exams and didn't want to be drowsy (a common side effect of Ami). Has anyone had any luck with treating this kind of problem with the same dosage of amitriptyline? Thanks in advance :)

Yes, Amitriptlyline can help your migraines, but it will take at least several weeks to work.  Your other symptoms could be related to your migraines.  If the Amitriptylene causes drowsiness, it should go away after awhile, or maybe you can go at a lower dose to start with.  If the Amitriptylene doesn't work, there are other meds to try which can prevent your migraines.  I have a very difficult migraine to treat, so none of the usual daily meds worked for me, but Botox worked wonders.  Also an off-label med called Namenda at 25% of the usual dose gave me significant relief.  So don't give up.  There are other treatments as well.  But start out with the Amitriptlylene.  Good luck.  Migraines can be terrible.
