Electricity headaches

Hi. I have recently started to get a sudden kind of headache that last for a sec or two and that it comes as an electricity shock, I even get like the sound of it, and then they disappear leaving me a bit confused for few seconds but being able to resume my life after.
I got them for the last 3 months and they don't follow any pattern. I can have them 2-3 times in a week and then they won't appear for a couple of weeks.
I call it headache because I got them on my head but they are not painful at all. But I am a bit worried as I don't know what to associate them to.
Does anyone Know what can cause them and how to prevent them?
Thank you very much.

Hello,
I also get these, but they are extremely painful and I've had severe reactions (like pouring hot tea all over myself, falling in shops, and fainting). I do take SSRI medications for Fibromyalgia, but GP doesn't think it is down to that as he said these symptoms normally occur when withdrawing from usage of an SSRI agent.
Doctor said to try a high dosage of Fish Oils on a daily basis, so I've been trying Omega 3 once a day as well as Cod Liver Oil. It's been 3 weeks on these supplements without a pain, however, that is not uncommon, I can have loads in space of a fortnight and then nothing for a long time (eg. 2 - 3 months). I've now been prescribed 'Pizotifen' to see if that will stop them. It's just so hard to know what's working and when due to the non-regular nature of these symptoms.
Any advice to move forward with these debilitating pains will be much appreciated. E-Mail is: matthew.***@****
Many thanks,
Matthew

Hi,

Till the time you are able to see your doctor, I would advise you do some neck exercises and apply cold compresses to your neck.
Make sure you get up and stretch after spending some time in front of the computer. A neck massage will also help.

Thanks for your answer. The truth is that it might be from a pinched nerve in the neck as I spend lots of ours in front of the computer and I usually have pain in my neck. Nevertheless, I will tak your advice and I'll talk to my family doctor.
Thanks again,
Bibiana

Hi,

How are you?
Electric shock like sensations in the head can be due to a pinched nerve in the neck. A compressed nerve in the upper part of neck can cause electric shock like sensations in the head.
Have you recently discontinued any medications?
Medications like SSRI (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Zoloft, cymbalta, and lexapro can lead to electric shock like sensations in the head or brain zaps.
Please discuss this with your family doctor. Let us know if you need more information.
Take care!
