Hi,
Stress can indeed be a factor. Symptoms usually resolve after this factor is removed from the picture. However, if it persists, direct examination by your doctor is indeed important for proper evaluation. Do keep us posted with your check-up. Take care always.
Hello doctor and thank you for taking a moment to reply back. I am on no medications whatsoever, and I am aware of my allergy triggers. I have been experiencing these strange sensations for months now, and wondering if stress is the primary cause. I am hoping that it is nothing more than just an involuntary stress reaction, and not a vein about to burst. I suppose the only way to know for sure would be to see a health examiner. Thank you for your concern, and providing some information along with it.
Hi,
How are you? Involuntary eye muscle spasm, especially in the eye area is believed to be caused by an abnormal functioning of certain nerve areas which control the coordination of muscle movements. It can also be due to idiopathic causes, side effect of certain medications, stress, irritation of the cornea, fatigue, lack of sleep, sinus issues, prolonged staring at a computer screen or television and even from nervous system disorders. Sinus inflammation can be triggered also with allergies and it is important that your identify the allergen responsible to avoid them. If it persists, you may need to check with your eye doctor to rule out eye conditions. Take care and do keep us posted.
Thank you for replying! Hopefully I am just experiencing sinus congestion, because allergies play a huge factor in my life, and I am very stubborn so oftentimes I avoid taking meds or going for a check-up. I too experience involuntary twitches in my eye area, but never saw a cause for major concern. My question to you is: Are you a coffee/tea drinker? I'm thinking that maybe this has something to do with what I have been experiencing on some level. Not getting enough or too much of these often give me headaches, but am unsure if that really affects my body in that manner. As for the heat pack trick you mentioned...very good advice. I will start trying that right away and see if that helps....is it more effective if you're lying down?
Hi there,
I have had migraines for years that mimic MS, and sometimes yes a simple sinus headache does sneak in there too. About a year ago I started having twitching around my eyelid and eyebrow. I thought this was something new related to my migraines since my aura symptoms can be so strange. I do take a daily medication for my migraines and it works for the most part. The twitch seemed to be showing up during low air quality days the most - I live in an area where this is a concern. So now I'm thinking maybe it's not related and got a little concerned that something was going on with the muscle behind my eye. Off to the eye doctor I go... Retina imaging confirmed that my eyes are great... So, why the twitch? Doc says, allergies... He confirmed that all of my other ocular aura are in fact vascular and migraine related but this twitch is from sinus pressure. I can't take anything to relieve the pressure in the form of medication because of the seizure medication and how it reacts with EVERYTHING...
I have found that placing a heat pack directly on the sight relieves it all the best. I will alternate the heat pack between my eyes and the back of my neck just below my head. My ENT told me about this trick - the sinuses drain like you wouldn't believe and all pressure is relieved and the twitch does go away.
I do hope this helps :)
