Issue with eye, getting nervous

Hello everyone,

Here is a brief history about my current concern....

A few years ago while at work I got a sensation in my left eye that caused me to lose vision in it for about 10-15 minutes. It was almost as if someone flashed a light in my eye and there was a temporary white light that covered my entire vision in that eye. After it slowly wore off I got a painful headache in the same area for the rest of the day, gone by the next day. It happened about 2 or 3 more times in 4 years. Last year, I thought I was having the same sensation one day, except this time I didn't experience any temporary blindness but I still had the strange sensation as if I was waiting for it to happen, never did though. It also lasted off and on for a few months. Finally I went to an eye doctor for the first time, so he did a number of basic tests on both eyes. He also did a test on my left eye that he said he could look all the way behind my eye..this was after telling him about the experiences in that eye, and he didn't find anything unusual. He said what I explained about the temporary blindness and the headache that followed could have been an ocular migraine.

I still from time to time get a sensation in my left eye that almost feels like a very slight pressure. I don't exactly know how to explain it. I also suffer from high blood pressure, a result of constant anxiety (usually over things like this), and my GP said I could still be feeling random sensations because of the blood pressure. Yesterday was my sisters birthday and I usually don't like taking pictures but I decided to this time, and I looked at my eye in the picture and there isn't a flash like there is in my right eye. I remember reading this could be a sign of a tumor so of course I hopped on Google and a lot of the things I found said about a red eye occurring in the pics. There isn't a red eye in my picture, just a flash in my right eye and not in my left. Of course Im sitting here thinking the worst. Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be or what could be the cause of the one eye flash? Thanks for your time everyone...

Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community.

I am not sure what you are trying to say about the picture? You wouldn't see anything in a picture.

It does sound like an ocular migraine and while they are painful and a bit scary they are not serious. You have had enough of them for you to talk to your PCP about taking some migraine preventative medication. I would schedule an appt with your PCP to discuss it.
