Have had headache for over a week...had IV treatment on Wed.

Hi,

I don't know if anyone has any advice. I have had a headaches since last Friday (off and on) They got worse on Wednesday with really bad nausea and I had to go into my neurologist and he gave me an IV treatment. They gave me extra pain meds and nausea meds and said I'd feel like I was punched in the head the next day but that the IV treatment was successful. I felt that way the next day but I still have remnant headaches. Today I'm even sound sensitive. I don't know what's going on or if this is normal after such a treatment since I have never had that before. I just finished PT for tension headaches in December and I don't think it is a tension headache. It feels like a chronic Migraine that wont go away. I even tried buying feverfew and magnesium to help with no success! I am on 150 mg of topamax to help "prevent" these buggers. I also take relpax to help control them. Thanks for your time and efforts!

Hi,

Yes it is most likely a chronic migraine. Migraines are often followed by dull headache and light and sound sensitivity.
I would suggest you to use the migraine tracker and try and identify the trigger for your migraines. It is also important to remember that magnesium supplements and Topamax take some time to act and the response is therefore not immediate.
Please give yourself some time, in the meantime take rest and apply cold compresses to the head and lie down in a quiet dark room. A cup of coffee may also help.

It was something with a T but it was only a one day treatment. I'm feeling a little better today but yesterday I had a bad migraine again. I'll see how it goes the  rest of the day and I might call my dr on Monday.

Thanks!

Hi.
Do you recall what the IV med was they gave you?  Several years ago I was hospitalized during what I call a migraine cycle (which I think I'm experiencing again) and I was given DHE45 (I think that's what it was called) for 7 days via IV.

I also take topomax, 100mg 2x/day and Maxalt for when I do get a migraine.  I've been having migraines though the past 5 days.  Unfortunately, I've never found anything else to help as apparently my migraines are vascular in nature.

If your migraines don't get better...go back to your doc.  Hope you feel better soon!!
