Headache during jiujitsu

I've been quite susceptible to headaches for a while. I can't go on rides at theme parks and even if I shake my head from side to side, this is enough to bring one on. Obviously I just don't do that though, so it's fine.

I started jiujitsu lessons yesterday though and had issues. Firstly, this simple warm up exercise, doing this but alternating from side to side, brought on a huge headache and make me feel sick - http://experiencelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Apr13_wo-supine-bridge2.jpg

As the lesson went on, it got worse and worse with every slight bump my head got. By the end, I had to sit in my car for 15 mins before driving home because moving my head made me feel like I was gonna puke. The headache was excruciating and I felt so sick.

Can anyone suggest something that could cause this, or is my body prone to headaches and it's just one of those things? I'm really annoyed as it's the first time it will have stopped me doing something that I actually want to do. I know it's a waste of time going to my doctor as he'll just think of the most simple solution and tell me it's definitely that.

Thanks in advance. Any advice is appreciated.

I don't think this is necessarily chiari but please update us on what the doctors have said.

Best wishes!

Chiari is not a well known diagnosis and most doctors are dismissive of it even if you do have it. But they can give you better help in that community if you do.

I saw my doctor and he referred me for an MRI reluctantly. He tried to convince me it was nothing and immediately dismissed the Chiari thing as it's too rare to even consider apparently. But I have an MRI being arranged and that's what matters as at least I'm getting somewhere.

All you need is an MRI for diagnosis and your doctor can do that.

Thanks, that actually looks like a possibility. Going by the NHS page on the condition, I experience half of the listed symptoms. My doctor is always very reluctant to hand out referrals to specialists though, so I don't imagine it's going to be very easy to find out if that is indeed the cause of the problem.

Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community.

Go visit the Chiari Malformation Community. It sounds a lot like that. And sorry to tell you, you probably are going to always have issues with strenuous exercise which would mean no jujitsu.
