Massive Migraines

Im a 17 yr old female and I have been having massive migraines for about 3-4 years straight.  My migraines have been so severe that i have had my nose bleed and projectile vomit. I have been going back and forth to my neurologist and pain clinic manager and both are getting upset at the fact that they can't pin-point the problem. I have had 3 ONB done and they don't really do much for me except taking the pain away for only 6 hours when they are supose to work for up to 3-6 weeks. They want to cut out the nerve because they believe thats the problem. Do you think that this is a good idea? there is a chance it could work for 3 years or more. i just want the pain gone. Im on massive pain medication to dull down the pain of the migraines; but its starting to take more and more of the pills to work and i don't want to become dependent on them.  please help me. Thank you

Hi,
How are you? Cluster Headaches present with excruciating headache that develops during sleep and may last for several hours. Attacks occur everyday for weeks then disappear for up to a year. Treatment such as oxygen, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent may help provide relief. It is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Imaging modalities such as CT scan or MRI may help rule out brain pathologies. Take care and regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
It is important to identify the trigger for your migraines. Have you been able to do so?
Headache diary will help you in identifying the trigger for your migraines. Make sure you avoid caffeine, aged cheese, processed meats, artificial sweeteners and foods containing MSG like Chinese foods.
Magnesium supplements and biofeedback therapy have shown good results in preventing migraine headaches. Nowadays microsurgery is used to treat migraines which are caused by pinched nerve. A part of the muscle is cut which is supposed to be causing the pinched nerve. Nerve blocks and cutting the nerves also relieves the migraine headache.
Please make sure you explore all the other options. Take care!
