My Migraines

I been getting migraines for about 8 years now.  I am 26 yrs old.  I get the pain in 1 spot on the right side of my forehead and a pain coming from the back of my neck at the same time.  The only thing to help this go away is 100mg's of imitrex.  I can't figure out what triggers these after all this time...I just wish there was a way I got a million tests such as mri's, catscans, medication to prevent them etc...I just wish they would go away forever i don't know what else to do...

Hi,

The cervical spine disorder is contributing to your headaches. Migraine may not be likely here since they saw something significant in your MRI.This may need to be addressed.Any plans to see the neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon? The headaches will persist if an underlying disorder that causes it is not properly managed. Also , the medications will not be beneficial since this may only alleviate the pain temporarily given that you have a slipped disk in your cervical spine. Discuss this with a surgeon so you may be further advised.

I would try a chiropractor in your area. I know that they can be costly and only a few are very good at what they do, but my sister has had tension headaches all her life and she has found great relief from this. Ask around to find a good one in your area.

Yes, it def. has something to do with tension in my neck leading to a migraine. going to a physical therapist for it and he noticed I have something in my neck he thought was an extra rib so i went and got an mri and it just shows I have a slipped disk in my neck.  Which could have been caused from anything or born like this nothing serious this is what the tech told me and it's not an extra rib!  So I stopped going to the physical therapist because he was making it hurt more.  He wanted me to go to a neuro surgeon. I can't take those everyday medications to prevent migraines they didn't agree with me.  I don't take imitrex everyday only when I feel a migraine coming.  Sometimes I won't get 1 for 2 months other times I will get them everyday for like a week.  I Just wish there was a way to figure something out.

Hi,

This may be tension headaches with a migraine component. Tension headaches may be associated with a tightening of the neck and shoulder muscles. When the attacks occur , is this severe enough to stop you from doing your regular activities? Do loud sounds and bright lights trigger the headaches?Have you been completely assessed for any underlying condition like eye problems or ear infections?

Cervicogenic headaches may also present with associated neck pain. Have you ever injured your neck or any positional factors eg position while lying in bed or when sitting down?

Get a consult with your physician as taking Imitrex everyday for the headaches may cause rebound headaches especially when combined with other anitimigraine medications like analgesics.

Yes, let me know what the doctor says even though I been to neurologists and headache specialists they just don't know!  thank God for the imitrex i mean it goes away after 15 minutes of taking it, but how much longer do i have to take this for?  It can't be that safe to keep taking this.  Did you try 100mg's of imitrex?  That's what works for me I had tried 50 and it didn nothing once I got 100 it was a whole new world.

I have the same pain as you going on 7 years now. There is no rhyme or reason to my migraines either. I am going to a nerologist tomorrow so maybe he can help. All my tests come back fine also. I havent found anything to take them away but laying in darkness (and quite) helps alot. I am taking imitrex also but its not really helping. It stops the migraine from getting worse but not with taking it away. I am going to talk to the Doc about the shots you can give yourself. You sound alot like me...after my doctors appointment I can let you know what they tell me if you would like. I know I havent helped much but I just wanted to let you know that you not alone, I understand what you are going through. Its awful!
