Severe Pain at back of head

Hello and thank you so much for having this site it seems to be very helpful. Well my story is that i just hit 25 years old. And since I was 17 i have been getting a extreme pain only in the back of my head if i lay down on my back with my back of head on not a soft surface i get a headache which turns into bad migrane. If i bounce around i get a headache it's only ever been in the back of my head and when it gets bad like if i dont take some type of tylenol or Advil right away it gets bad. I can always hear my heartbeat throbing in my head if i look down there's more pressure and hurts extremely bad I was in the hospital so much from 17-20 they gave me a cat scan i believe it was i guess it came out fine . but the migranes have still continued i dont get them all the time but if i get a head ache it's only been in this on spot and it always turns into migrane if not taken care of i went to see nuraligist and she's getting me into a mri i believe she said. but if this mri comes out fine what could cause these migranes I might want to add i do stress ALOT. but still i cannot lay on the back of my head if i lay on a hard floor without pillow and im on my back i get these migranes. any advice.

Maxalt is brand name for Rizatriptan. It belongs to the category of medication known as Triptans. Triptans are very effective in treatment of acute migraine attacks because they are known to reduce the swelling of blood vessels. Dilatation of blood vessels in the brain is known to cause migraines.

Thanks i'll try it out..just didn't want to have to resort to pill/painkillers or stuff like that.i got these pills recently called Maxalt not sure how they work I woke up with a migrane couple days ago . took one and eventually fell back asleep woke up and was fine..so these pills seem to help when the pain gets bad.thanks for your help DrNoopurMD i love this site.

Thanks for writing in.
Since you have identified the trigger for your migraines I would suggest you to avoid it because that’s the best treatment for migraine. Avoid lying down on hard surfaces and always make sure that you rest your head on a soft pillow.
I would also suggest you to try magnesium supplements for migraine prophylaxis. Magnesium is known to prevent migraine attacks in chronic migraineurs. Meanwhile OTC pain killers will provide you relief from pain.
