I also have variant magraines. I have had many of the same things happen to me as well. My trigger food seemed to be  fish. I, over a period of years have narrowed it down to omega 3's. All most everything has omega 3's. The higher the amount the stronger the reaction. I also have high bp. When I am having a reaction my bp goes thru the roof.. I am going to have some testing done on allergies. I believe this is at the core of what is happening to me. I will keep this spot posted. I hope this info is helpful to some.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
High BP can lead to stroke but since your MRI was clear stroke has been ruled out. The other possibility is complicated migraine. What you probably experienced was basilar migraine.
Basilar migraine is characterized by aura symptoms like numbness on one side of the body, visual symptoms which affect the field of vision, double vision, vertigo and impaired hearing.
Normal migraine medications like Imitrex do not work in basilar migraines. It is important to differentiate these type of migraines from brain tumors, stroke and seizure disorder. Medications kike Beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and Topamax are used to control these type of migraines.

Hi, I had something similar happen to me a year ago this month.  I had the same sensation of looking through water, everything became very brite for me and I knew I was about to have a migraine.  I've had them most of my life but its just since my 40's that I started getting the aura.  I got the migraine but I also became numb on left side, was vomiting and eventually couldn't see and lost consciousness  Nothing like this has ever happeded before.  When taken to the hospital they didn't know what was happening but thought might be stroke so I was sent by amb. to the city.  After I got to the city I was given MRI, CT SCAN, and EEG.  After the EEG I was told they felt I had a seizure caused by the migraine.  I am now on Phenytoin(Dilantin) and have not had another episode.  I am 54!
Do you get migraine's?
