Why do I keep getting these terrible headaches?

Well technically I've had an almost constant tension type headache for about a week now. Most of the pain is in the back of my head and my neck but sometimes it gets so severe it feels that my scalp and every single muscle in my face is cramping up and my temples end up sore. I do smoke and I'm on the computer a lot, sometimes taking a break from the computer helps but sometimes not. Earlier in the week I was taking up to 12 ibuprofen a day but I've cut it back some because it occurred to me I could me having medication overuse headaches. I've also considered a sinus infection because when I bend forward I get bad pain in my forehead. I'll most likely be going to see my Dr on Monday if the headaches don't stop by then, which I have a feeling they won't.

Thank you for the reply! The headaches haven't been so bad lately but now I'm having pain in the skin on the top of my left shoulder. It feels like sunburn. I plan to go see my doctor tomorrow.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
There is a chance that you have compression of the spinal nerves in the cervical spine region. This can happen due to overuse of computers, work involving straining of neck, herniated disc, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc. A MRI of the cervical spine and nerve conduction studies may be required. Please consult a neurologist. Use a good computer chair with ample back and wrist support. Improve your posture. Do neck exercises everyday twice a day. Use a local pain relief gel/cream/spray on your upper back and neck. Ask someone to gently massage your upper back and neck. Please also consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
