Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Sudden sharp pain in the head which last for few seconds and come out of nowhere can be ice pick headaches or neuralgias.
Icepick headaches are common in migraine sufferers and are usually relieved by Indomethacin. Do you have a history of migraines?
Other possibility is neuralgias. These are sharp stabbing headaches which occur due to irritation of the nerve roots and usually occur in the distribution of the nerve. They can be triggered by stimuli like cold air or even a simple act like shaving.
This requires further evaluation, please consult your family doctor about it. Take care!

Hi Rob! I get the same things. I also suffer from other types of migraines.  My migraine doc told me it was something called  an "icepick migraine".  Mine hit randomly and actually stop me in my track like I've been frozen, feels like I'm being stabbed by something, then just as quickly goes away.  Does this sound like the same thing?
