Sharp, sudden, stabbing headache

Hey, I am 19, and recently i have been get irregular sharp stabbing headaches that last for only about 2 seconds but hurt really bad. I probably get about 8-10 a day. They always occur on the right part of my head on the top. What's going on here?

Hi,
It is good that there was no headache for today. Sleep is important and if there is lack of it, may lead to headache as well. There is a headache tracker here in Medhelp that may help. List all possible triggers - it may be food, lack of sleep, weather, hormonal, etc. If there is a pattern that may be causing your headaches, this should be avoided. Take care.

I haven't had any headaches today which is good. No neck or head trauma. Sleep. . . that's funny. I don't think sleep is possible when you're a college student.

Hi,
How are you? Was there a previous history of truam or injury to your head or neck? This may be what the International Headache Society call as ice pick headaches, which present with  stabbing or jarring pain is confined to the head that recur erratically to several times a day. Unfortunately, there is no identifiable cause underlying the pain.  Rest and identification of the possible headache triggers may help. If it persists, you may need to have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
