Pressure on right side of head

Hi Doctor,

I am a 22 y/o male in Canada. Currently, I suffer from Vitamin B12 deficiency and am taking weekly injections at my family doctor. I also have high blood pressure 145/85, for which I am taking medication as well.

Since 2 days, i have been feeling this strange thing on the right side of my head. I feel as if the pressure is too high in the right side of the head behind my right eye. I also feel as if my right eye will pop out because of that. Also, when i lower my head, i feel pressure on my right side of the head. I am not sure why I am feeling such a pressure.

I feel the effect of this pressure on my right eye, right ear. Could it be because of improper sleeping position?

Please advice.

Thanks
RV

Hi,

This is not due to improper sleeping position and requires further evaluation by your GP. The causes can be acute sinusitis, raised intracranial pressure, even intracranial bleeding.
I would suggest you not to delay and consult your GP as soon as possible. It is also important for you to keep your BP under control with medications and dietary restrictions.
Keep us posted.

Hi Dr. Noopur,

thanks for the reply. Forgot to mention before, I also had a really painful throat when I woke up in the morning yesterday and got better through the day. I had a painful throat today morning too and got better through the day. Since 3-4 days, I have had a really congested nose and green stuff thats very sticky comes out of my nose. its hard to breath in the nights when sleeping. So, i have to keep my mouth open. Is the stuffed nose related to that right side headache? apparently, i dont have the similar right side headache today and even the stuffed nose has gotten better. I guess its mild sinus. cuz its too cold here

Hi,

Thanks for the additional information. Pain in the throat and purulent discharge from the nose is very suggestive of upper respiratory tract infection and sinusitis. Your symptom of headache is very likely due to sinusitis.
I would suggest you to take regular steam inhalations at least 3-4 times in a day and once before sleeping. This will help in easing the congestion.
Also since you have mentioned greenish discharge which indicates infection, I would suggest you to consult your GP as you need a course of antibiotics to clear the infection.
OTC decongestants will also help.

Hi there,

I just went to the gp for a check up. He checked my ears and said I did not have any sinus. Then, the pain receded for a couple of days. But, it started again last night. Surprisingly, it started after ejaculation. I felt pressure on the right side of my frontal head for a long time. It was throbbing pressure whenever I slept> however, there was no pressure when I stood up. Whenever I sleep after ejaculation, I feel blood pressure on the right side of my head. I have noticed this has only happened after I started my blood pressure medication Metoprolol. I never felt such pressure after ejaculation when I was not on metoprolol. I have noticed whenever I do not ejaculate for a few days, I feel fine with nothing. But the time I ejaculate, i start feeling pressure and it gets better after a few days. This has been happening only after taking BP medication. Does metoprolol suppress sex? and If I ejaculate, would it cause pressure and pain until I am on medication? Please advice. It starts with pressure and then theres a mild pain.

Also, it feels like something, maybe a vein or artery that carries blood to my head is swollen and adding that pressure to eyes, jaws and ears. Not sure if thats true though.
