Double Vision

I am a 47 year old woman. About 4 years ago I had sudden onset of double vision - worsening and continues to today. I also lost my hearing in the left ear about the same time. I have been through all the tests, MRI, blood tests, and repeat MRI 4 years later. Nothing shows up. I recently was sent to an opto-neurologist and he did a myathenis graves tests and MRI and all came back negative. However, since July the double vision has got worse. I now wear 30 prisms in my glasses. It is so frustrating because there are no answers. The MRI showed no problems with muscles that would indicate thyroid eye disease or anything else. Everything comes up fine. I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues and what they might have tried. I was thinking of trying hypnosis to convince my brain and eyes to work together.

I have a friend that had double vision.  It turned out to not be a muscular thing but a problem with deterioration of the spinal column at the top of his neck.  I think he saw an opto neurologist at Stanford, CA who finally diagnosed his condition correctly.

Hi,

It is important to look into the possibility of migraine. Migraine can occur with or without headaches. Another possibility is nasopharyngeal carcinoma in which there is hearing loss and double vision.

Nothing can be said for sure without a clinical exam. I would suggest you to get an ENT exam done at your earliest.
