Facial pain when sleeping - stomach sleeper

I am a 25 year old male and I am a stomach sleeper. For the strangest reason I have to alternate between sleeping on the left side of my face to the right side of my face. If I stay on one side of my face too long I develop a dull pain and it goes away once I switch to the other side of my face. I have been doing this for my whole life or at least I think I have. I do not know the reasoning behind this. I also cannot fall asleep on my back. My neck gets sore which could just be an improper pillow, but I also get pain on the back of my head. I would love to fix these problems as I would much prefer to become a back sleeper as it is better for your body. Any suggestions on what I could do or any ideas why I have these facial pains when I sleep on my stomach?
