severe pain in ankle after 3 weeks in cast

H,
Three weeks ago, I fractured my talus in my left ankle. I saw the dr today who took off my cast after these 3 weeks. He rex-rayed but saw no fracture this time. I am having the same pain that I had when I went to see him. My ankle hurts when it is touched or when walking on it, or movement like walking up stairs or bending it slightly up and down. I know the cast is just off today but I was not expecting my ankle to still feel the way it did when it was casted. IS this normal??? If so, How long before it feels better without pain???

Thank you

Hi, I have a calcaneas Fx s/p ORIF 3 weeks ago. I am NWB but my surgeon said he may take my cast off in 2 weeks and try a boot. I have never broken a bone  before or been in such pain. I now have 2 screws and was told the joint wasn't involved.  I stopped taking narcotic pain meds this week and am trying OTC NSAIDS. Seems to be working ok as long as I elevate. My question is: is it too soon for WB in 2 weeks? And how much pain should I expect with WB? I'm afraid of putting weight on it too soon and causing more damage or re-injury. Thank u in advance for your help.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

This is absolutely normal and this is called stiffness.
Start therapy as explained to you.
Do not exert your ankle and do not put full weight immediately. Start walking, physical therapy and slowly exert in a progressive way.
Take care!
