59 Years old ovarian cysts

I am 59 years old and have had a partial hysterectomy 32 yeas ago because of cancer. I was having pain on my right side so doctor had a cat scan done. Found nothing on right but cysts on the left ovarie. Also have had vaginal sonogram. I have been blessed with being cancer free for these 32 years. Now I am living again in fear of the unknown it helps to share. If anyone else had gone though this at my age or any word of encouraging is welcome.

My mom had one ovary out 15 years ago due to an ovarian cyst, and her other ovary out (along with all her other girl bits) jsut 2 weeks ago due to a basketball sized (!) ovarian cyst. The cyst was not cancerous. The surgeon sent away her uterous to make sure it wasn't, but even if the result is cancer he says no further treatment is required as he got everything out.

Just to "echo" Irene... even at our age..Matter of fact, I even had a uterine fibroid as well. Those things usually disappear. Go figure ! Good luck and try not to worry..

I had the idea that after menopause I wouldn't have to even think about my female parts. Unfortunately, they had other ideas. 2 years ago I had surgery to remove a 10 cm cyst on my left ovary. I was worried, thought "this can't be good, I'm menopausal." But it was a plain fluid filled cyst and they removed it along with the ovary and tube. No sign of cancer at all.

True - I don't have your history but I just wanted you to know that ovaries can still act up in our "mature" years.

The cysts could well be unrelated to the illness you had 32 years ago, but at 59 you don't really need those ovaries anymore and the anxiety of what can go wrong with them.  I would say have the ovaries and cysts removed, and if you have a gynecologist/onocologist in your area to which you can be referred, that's the doctor you need to see for the best possible surgery.  Second choice would be a highly respected gyn that does a lot of these surgeries.
