Yes.

My gynaecologist/surgeant put me on progesteron (which can be the so-called 'mini'-bc-pill with only progesteron in it or an other type of progesteron-like pill) to shrink the cysts I had. It worked!
After some days they started shrinking and after 10 days they were gone.

I'm on combined bc-pills now (the regular one, like Marvelon/Belara with both progesteron and oestrogen in it) to prevent new cysts from occuring. I know it works, because when I take a break week, after a long cycle of 12 weeks, the damn things grow back like crazy!

But after they reoccured last time, I again took progesteron and it took longer for the cyst to go away. So 5 days... not much I'd say.
As long as your cysts stop growing, you're ok to wait and see for say an other week. If you take it easy and don't jump, turn, bounce, have intercourse, there is no harm in having a 3 by 5 CM cyst. It might go down in a few days like it did with me, or maybe it will with a larger dose of progestogene. If it's not growing anymore, I would consider prosponing the surgery for a week to see what happenes. Because if you can prevent a laparascopy, that's still better.

The whole progesteron/bc-pill thing was after I had a laparascopy myself to take out a 9cm cyst and a smaller one and a lot of adhesions. So with me cysts keep on growing without extra hormones. If it had been smaller than when I came in though the ER, the doc said we would have tried progesteron first, but that wasn't possible anymore. In general, over 6/7 cm hormonetherapy doesn't work anymore and then you need surgery.

Let us know what is going on!

I have not heard of BC pills shrinking a cyst in 5 days either, but like Trudie, that doesn't mean it can't happen.  Laprascopic surgery is so much easier to heal from than a laparotomy, so I am glad your doctor is taking care of it now.  Trudie gave excellent advice, as usual :-) when she said to get some stuff done now so you can relax and heal after your surgery.  I look forward to hearing what you find out on Wednesday.  Good luck and please keep us posted on how you are doing.

I've not heard of it happening but that doesn't mean it can't.  It is good they are dealing with it now and not waiting until the cyst gets larger and requires more invasive surgery.  At this point you should be able to have a laporascopic surgery which is much easier to recover from.  Try and find ways to relax and work to get things done ahead (cook food and freeze, grocery shopping, house clean, etc.) so you can take it easy after your surgery.  Let us know how it goes.
