complex ovarian cyst

I was diagnosed yesterday with a complex ovarian cyst.  The ultrasound tech told me its 8cm and blood filled.  The only symptoms i have are pressure in the lower abdomen and urinary frequency.  She did tell me its pushing right up against my bladder.  I of course found out these results late on a friday afternoon and have to wait until monday to schedule an appointment with my GYN.  Until then i am trying to learn all i can about cysts and came across this great forum.  Anyone have insight from their own experiences as to what I can expect with this?

Thanks for the info, Valerie.  Ive learned a lot already.  I'm not too anxious about this because I know ovarian cysts are pretty common - I just want to be an educated consumer.  Oh the US tech gave me more info than she was supposed to because I just kept firing questions at her.  I knew a had something on my ovary going in so I asked her to point it out to me on the US machine.   Like i said - better to be an educated consumer!

You can go to the Heath Pages on the top right of the Cyst Board and scroll down to the Cyst information links. You'll find a lot of useful info there. It's unusual for a tech to give you any information, hopefully she didn't worry you too much. A blood filled cyst could be an endometrioma, assuming she's right. Have you ever been diagnosed with endometriosis? It's often referred to as a "chocolate cyst" because of the color of the dried blood inside.
The symptoms your having are common with a cyst, and the bigger they are the more pressure they put on the surrounding organs. I just had one removed from my right ovary and a different kind of tumor from my left a little under 2 weeks ago, and the endometrioma was a surprise to the surgeon and to me.
It's good to have some knowledge of cyst  before you see your doctor on Monday, and you can write down any questions you want to ask her so you don't forget during the appt. She may suggest doing a laparoscopy to remove it it is an endometrioma, they won't shrink on their own. It's not as invasive as a laparotomy and the recovery time is a lot quicker.
Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions you have after you see your doctor.
