Look up ovarian cysts in one of the sites like Mayo Clinic's, that is basically a medical encyclopedia. Birth-control pills shrink some types of ovarian cysts, presumably you have that type or the doctor would not have prescribed them. I am sorry you are impatient, but it will help to get rid of the cysts if you are trying to conceive, even if it means you have to wait a month or two. I don't know if you cannot ovulate when you have a cyst, but it sure would be a painful thing and probably it does prevent ovulation when a cyst is present. The bcps cut the hormones that prolong the cyst, and it shrinks.
I'm sorry....she called me yesterday and stated they are cysts...She did mention birth control but how would that help if my entire reason is because my husband and I want a child?? It seems as though its maintaining the cysts to me...and if I stp taking the birth control, will they come back?
The birth control is to shrink the cysts. (Did the doctor say cysts or tumors? There's a difference.) You really don't cut out an ovarian cyst if it is fluid filled, you either try to aspirate the fluid with a needle or else to shrink it by going on birth-control pills. It's a lot better to go on the pill and shrink them than to remove the ovaries, so I'd be glad the doctors are saying that is a choice.
