What is the size of the cyst? Often if the cyst is a functional cyst, relatively small and doesn't have any abnormalities then doctors will choose to "watch and wait" to see if the cyst will go away on its own. Majority of women do experience ovarian cysts and they generally do go away on their own without any damage. Caution that if it is on the larger size then it could rupture or twist in which you will experience extreme pain. If this happens it is an emergent situation and you need to go to the ER.
Many women find that they need to get second and third opinions in order to get answers they need from someone they trust. While two weeks seems to be average amount of time as they didn't believe it was an emergency, if you don't trust your doctor it may be wise to seek out other medical advice.
** I personally went to urgent care thinking I had appendicitus and the doctor gave me a ct. I have an ovarian cyst which they found and I too had to get an ultrasound which was weeks later. I know it is troublesome and understand your pain but this site has many pages of information (click on health topics link at the top) and the women on here are very helpful and comforting!**
I wish you all the best and let us know how everything goes.
Have you been seeing this doctor for a long time? If you trust him, then it's probably nothing to worry about. Cysts can be very painful and troublesome without necessarily being dangerous. If you have doubts about the doctor, please get a second opinion. Otherwise, I think you'll be ok waiting for another 2 weeks. I was lucky and got an ultrasound done the same day and it's enough to detect cysts without having a ct scan. Most cysts are nothing to worry about and I'm sure that if it was an emergency, the doctor would have treated it as such. Cysts can either rupture or twist your ovary and that is very painful. If you experience horrible pain like that you should definitely go to the ER again. Try not to worry though. We sometimes make things seem worse than they are in our heads because we think too much about it and we're scared. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
I agree with babypooh. My cysts seem to only happen on my right side. Then pain gets so bad sometimes that i start thinkin its my appendex. In the last 4 months i have gone to the ER 3 times. Everytime they find a cyst. I have what they call functional cysts. They happen when i ovulate. Then it ruptures. I aint goin to lie, it hurts BAD. But after a couple of days the pain starts to go away. If you dont trust your doctor, then find one you are comfortable with. Some types of cysts can be treated with birth control. If the pain gets worse or you get a fever go to the ER. My motto is "Better safe, then sorry." Feel better and keep us posted.
Thank you so much for your comments. I have been really worried but reading your comments, I really feel alot better. I do not know the size of the cyst as of yet. I hoping to find out more when I return for my ultrasound. I am just so scaried I will have another rupture and have to experience that severe pain again. Again thank you. I am so glad I found this website.
The pain hurts, but if you are able to take birth control, then ask your gyno to put you on it. Me, I cant take the pill, so i am always in pain. If you have another rupture, take anti-inflammitories ( i.e.motrin ) Also a heating pad, or hot bath helps with the pain. Sometimes with me, the more I move around, the less pain I feel. Make sure you take something for the pain before you go to sleep. If your body is in pain you wont get a good nights sleep. Glad we could help. And remember if the pain is really bad or you develope a fever go to the ER.
