Lump (right ovary)

Hi, I am an absolute wreck when it comes to going to the Doctors. I am 21 years old and I have never gone since I was a baby. I was wondering if anyone had any advise.
I can feel a lump on my right ovary inside me, it feels uncomfortable but not painful. It almost feels like a golf ball and i can feel pressure their when i sneeze and cough. . .My periods have also become practically non existent with a bit of 'spotting.' Does anyone recognise these symptoms as ovarian cancer or cysts?
I am extremly afraid of the Doctors and I have had this for about 8 months. But I think as its getting more uncomfortable I may have to make the dreaded trip!.
Any comments would be most appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,
First of all calm down..The chances of your having a malignancy are very small.. not to say impossible, but very small.
But.. ..you should have been going to the Dr. on a regular basis just for checkups, etc. Then you probably wouldn't be so frightened.
It's possible you do have a cyst.. and they are VERY common .. Right at the top of this page, there is a link called "Health Pages" .. Check that out and it will explain all the different kinds of Ovarian cysts. Most of the time Ovarian cysts will just disappear on their own. But.. you need a Dr. to see what's really going on in there. They may give you a transvaginal ultrasound which is not painful.. a little uncomfy but if you've been having pap smears, not much worse. .
Now, Monday, call a good Gynecologist, explain that you need an exam ( you should have one every year anyway) and take it from there.
In the meantime, don't worry.. truly don't worry. and then let us know what the Dr. says and we'll help you all we can. And.. until your appointment, try not to think about it too much.. Do something fun..

Take care,
Sandy

You need to make the trip ASAP.  95% of cysts are benign but even benign cysts can cause problems.  Please see your doctor and arrange for a transvaginal ultrasound and keep us posted on your progress.

All the best,
Trudie
