Complex ovarian cyst

Hi
Two weeks ago, I was rushed to ER due sudden pain in my stomach and my left arm (I thought it was bursitis). The doctors found nothing in my heart or stomach, but felt a "mass" in my abdomen and ordered an ultrasound. In the ultrasound, they found a "complex cyst-like mass" of 10 cm x 7 cm in my left ovary.
Since then, I have experienced nausea, weakness, fullness, dull pain in my pelvis and pain in my lower back and hips. The medical system here is slow (Canada), so the results went to my walking clinic and I had to go there three times to speed up the appointment with a gynecologist and a CT-scan (I got the gyn app for next week and still nothing about CT-scan).
I'm worried as I'm losing days of work and feel worse with every day. I don't know what to expect from this and whether I should do something else...

I know how you feel I live in Quebec Canada and I waited from February until June when I was finally operated on for 2 complex ovarian cysts close to the size of yours. My gynecologist didn't believe I was in that much pain until my laparoscopy ended up being a laparotomy due to all the adhesions I had from the extensive endometriosis I had and chocolate cysts. All I can say is push push push as much as you can. I went private for several of the tests to speed things up and I didn't stop pushing. I was freaking out because I was in a lot of pain and my CA 125 bloodtest results were high. I wish you luck but our medical system is far from perfect.

I hope the gynecologist you are meeting with next week operates I found out the hard way that they don't all operate. I had all my tests done and knew I needed surgery only to be told that she had to refer me to a gynecologist that operated and then I had to wait another 2 months for that !!

Hi there.  Referred pain to the opposite side as well as the other symptoms you are having are very common with ovarian cysts, especially one that size.

It is hard when you don't have your own family doctor but already having the ultrasound and getting into a gyn next week are positive steps.  Don't get too worried about the CT.  The transvaginal ultrasound gives a much better view of the ovaries than a CT does.  Your gyn will fast track anything else you need.  Once I got into my gyn my surgery was a few weeks later but in my case they needed to include a general surgeon because of my adhesions and previous intestinal surgeries.

Have they given you anything for pain?  Make sure everyone understands the pain you're in and how uncomfortable you are.  If you can't work ask about getting on short term disability or getting sick benefits from EI.  Good luck and please feel free to ask any questions.

10cm x 7 cm is fairly large....nearly grapefuit sized....and can cause all of those unpleasant symptoms. What really needs to be done is for a gynecologist to fast track you for surgical removal of that cyst.  You are not going to feel better until that cyst is gone.

There are a few Canadian ladies on this forum that may have some kind of advice how to get through the system faster.  TrudieC our other community leader may have ideas.  Why don't you send her a note through MedHelp?

No, but I've been very weak and with goosebumps, so who knows...
Right now, the pain is in my right side (but they told me the cyst is in my left ovary), I am bloated and can't sit for much long. I also have occasional diarrhea and nausea and fill full without eating too much.
