cyst "in" vs "adjacent" to ovary

Does anyone know what the difference is between a cyst that is IN the ovary vs. a cyst that is ADJACENT TO an ovary?  Would an adjacent cyst still originate from the ovary?  Can dermoid cysts be adjacent or must they be inside the ovary?  I'm still trying to understand all this new terminology of ovarian cysts. Thanks.
