22 cm Diagnosed Friday- Advise PLEASE

Hi All,  I was diagnosed with a 22 cm possibly dermoid tumor in my left ovary last Friday.  The doc sent me to a world renowned imaging specialist and I had 3 advanced ultrasounds completed in a few hours.  At first the doc said cyst 22 cm but then when I got to the specialist she said tumor with 3 growths in it, 22 cm, could be torsion (twisted ovary).  My hubby was with me and said to me tonight "I don't believe that it's 22 cm- there's no way that you can have something that big inside."  This was the Dr.'s diagnosis, and I am having surgery on July 21st.  I don't think that the doctor was exaggerating when he stated the measurement (I watched as they measured on the ultrasound).... Is it possible to be a smaller woman (108 lbs) and have such a large growth???  I'm so confused and this has become a sore spot (no pun intended) for my hubby and I.  I am only presenting the following symptoms: a lot of pain (feels raw), profuse bleeding (heavier than I have ever had before), and nausea off and on.  You know, it really upsets me how cavalier people are being with this.  I know it will be taken out and it will be fine- but I'm feeling a little lost in left field on my own here. Thanks for any information about the size of this thing, what to expect at operation, and how something so large can be removed laparoscopically.  Thanks so much girls!

Thanks so much!  I will definitely post my post-op experience.  I was surprised by the operative laparascopy as well.  Well, only 9 days left until relief day.  Can hardly wait.

Wow, they're doing this laparoscopically?  They must have some advanced techniques.  Most doctors move to laparotomy when a cyst is over 10 cm.  And do tell your husband that it is very probable that your cyst is that large.  You will be so amazed at how much better you will feel when this is removed.  It will be very important that you don't overdo it after the surgery - do rest, and no lifing or twisting for a month at least.  You will have a pre-op appointment and they will take you through the procedure and and ensure you ask all your questions.  Good luck and please let us know how it goes.
