Update on Orthopedic Surgeon

OK I had my appointment this morning with the Orthopedic Surgeon. I found out that he is the BEST in his field here in AZ. I LOVE THAT FACT!!! He was terrific.  The first thing that they did was take ANOTHER 3 x-rays (I had brought them the CT SCan that was done on May 7th but he ALSO wanted the x-rays. Just like my PM Dr. he had NO Idea how I'm able to walk. He told me that it looks as if it's not just the screws that are loose but the ENTIRE implant.

I told him about something that had happened last week ( I never posted about it, I know I should have) that I went thru 3 days of EXCRUCIATING pain where I could feel the screws cutting thru more of what felt like muscles to the point that the ONLY way I could walk was with my walker.  He also could tell that my hip had been popping in and out of the joint. Then I noticed something on the x-rays and commented on the position of the screws and how they were right next to each other about 1/2" apart NOW. He asked me what they were like AFTER the surgery and I told him that my Internist was concerned because the screws were CROSSED OVER each other and NOW they are NEXT to each other. He looked at me and said "Well that settles I can say ABSOLUTELY that your ENTIRE implant is loose and floating in there.

The cup is in at a VERY perpendicular instead of horizontal angle and he said that I shouldn't be too hard on my surgeon about that as sometimes it has to be put in a little straighter in a second implant because of the bone (you could tell that he was saying that to be nice towards the other surgeon) and then he went on and said "'I did one just last week and it was ALMOST (not as) straight as yours, OF COURSE she was 89years old and winked at me!!

We are set for surgery on September 8th at 11:30am. I will be in the hospital from that Wednesday until Saturday and then of course have Physical Therapy in my home.It takes anywhere from 2 to 6 months to recover from this surgery. The nice thing is that we have a one story home here in AZ instead of the 2 - story in TN and because of that I had to stay upstairs for 6 weeks before I could safely negotiate the staris.  I'm just so relieved that after that at least my hip pain will be gone. Unfortunately, NOTHING can be done for my DDD or my Arthritc pain. So that will remain.

I am anxiously awaiting my surgery. I don't dread it at all. It's a VERY rough one BUT afterward, when it's done correctly as it will be this time, the pain GOES AWAY!!!

I wanted to update you guys. Take Care....Sherry

What great news, Sherry!!!  (I just asked you about the hip implant in a comment on a post of mine.  I didn't know the back story and I still confuse people here with their medical problems.  Still learning.)

My brother-in-law had a hip implant last year and the surgeon actually put the implant in backward.  (Not sure how you can even do that.)   He went through hell.  (We don't get along and he's an idiot, but he still didn't deserve any of what happened.  And to make things worse he's a VERY BAD addict so they had a very difficult time controlling his pain.)

I had a terrible time with my implant.  It was redone with ligaments and that didn't work out and I finally had a fusion in March, which hasn't helped either.  Not totally sure where I'm going from here.

that's WONDERFUL news!!  I'm so happy that you have found a surgeon that not only has discovered the reason for your increased pain, but also that feels quite confident that he can fix it!!  I'm so happy for you!

I know what you mean when you say you're looking forward to the surgery.  You're in so much pain now, even though you know that you'll be is misery after the surgery, you also know that each and every day should get better.  I felt the same way before my shoulder replacement surgery.  I knew I would be in a lot of pain afterward, but I also knew it would be a "different" pain and would improve every day.

Between now and then, PLEASE take time for yourself whenever you can and get as much rest and pain relief as possible.  Keep us all posted on how you're doing.

Again, I'm so very happy for you!

Wow shopping, I don't see how you do it but you do and I respect you for that. Are you near the fires? I have been wondering that since I heard about them on the news. Oh and check your email ;) I agree you need to rest, I know how hard that is with your taking care of your granddaughter but try to find sometime for your self.

Oh Sherry, isn't it wonderful you have THE best surgeon.  That should take some of the worry out of the mix.  You have such a great attitude.  The most people would be "poor me, I have to have surgery and I had to use my walker, oh, woe is me!"  But not our Sherry!  Always puts the best face on everything.  She faces everything with a smile and a kind word.

So for once, I'm going to give you an order.  YOU SLOW DOWN AND TAKE IT EASY!  We don't want those screws doing anymore damage or you in any unnecessary pain.

Good luck dear friend!
We all love you  (((HUGS)))

HI sweetie,

I'm so sorry that it took me so long to get this post up but when I got home I needed to take my granddaughter into Phoenix for some new shoes and that took us several hours especially since I had NO idea where I was going!! We are still so new here that I hadn't been to this part of town where this shopping center is. There is ALWAYS a lot of traffic as we have 6 million people here in the Phoenix area!!

Yes, we all share a home together and it makes it VERY simple for me when it comes to the hip surgery.

Jamie, thank you so much for the kind words. It means a lot to me!! You are always so very sweet to me!  :)

(((Hugs!!)))...Sherry

I am so happy this appt went good and he is able to fix what has been done and I really don't blame you for wanting this surgery so the pain will stop, that makes me so happy to know that. It will be a hard and long road but it will be worth it!! It just seems like Sept is a year away. Do you live with your daughter so there is someone to take care of you when your recover? I know having your granddaughter there will help you recover also. A 1 story house is great for you!!! I am sorry you have been in so much pain and I hate that you are going thru this, that is why I am always saying you are a very strong woman and I wish I was half like you. Like always i am thinking of you. I have been worried all day since you haven't been on, your just like my mom when I don't hear from you I start to worry lol But I know you are taking very good care of yourself.
Lots of Love
Jamie
