Migraine

My Aunt is having her tubes tied(lapriscopy) this coming Tuesday. She has instructions from the hospital that says she cannot take any type of OTC pain reliever for this week prior to her surgery. She has had a migraine for two days now, and hasn't taken anything because of the instructions from the hospital. I'm wondering if there is any type of OTC pain reliever that she can take. She take Norco 7.5 three times a day for degenerative disc disease, and also Procardia XL for high Blood pressure.

Yes, Mollyrae is correct. She is still allowed to take her other pain meds. Will those help with her migraines or not? I get migraines and headaches often but my pain meds do not help. Has she ever looked into why she is getting them frequently? I had started getting, at least, 3 migraines a week, years ago. I stopped caffeine completely and went to a Neurologist. I wish I would have done that long before. They ended up putting me on Inderal ER which is for blood pressure.........but I have always had low blood pressure. What this medication does is, help with the flow of blood to the brain and keep from getting the pressure build up for the migraine to occur. Since being on this, I have had a total of maybe 5 migraines in the past 8 years. Big improvement!!! Just a thought for your Aunt. Many things can contribute to a migraine...,,....PMS, weather and barametric pressure, hormones,  and certain foods. Good Luck and best wishes!

Your Aunt cannot take any NSAID's but should be allowed to take her  prescription because it doesn't contain NSAID's. The blood tends to thin out with the use of anit-inflammatories (NSAID's. )

Have her either contact the Pharmacy or her Doctor, they will give her instructions on what to take.

Take care,
Mollyrae

Yes, I agree.  They don't want her to take those medications due to them thinning the blood volume.

I hope your Aunt's migraine goes away soon, sometimes I get them for days at a time too.
