Hello Fellow Wisconsinite!
I am so sorry to hear about your horrid mouth issues. Dental Care in WI is extremely expensive. I've heard it's next to impossible to find a Dentist that will take state insurance. My heart goes out to you!
We have an excellent Dental Health Forum that may be of help to you. You are always welcome here but I encourage you to post your questions on the Dental Forum too.
Here's the link:

Best of luck and please let us know how you are doing.
Peace,

It sounds like a REALLY bad case of oral thrush to me. I would go to the ER and explain that you don't want to wait until you can get an appointment with your regular doctor because it is very uncomfortable and you would have to go another whole week before you could get in there, giving it that much more time to worsen.
The symptoms that you listed are exactly those that come with thrush. You get thrush if your immune system has been compromised by something. Sometimes taking steroids can cause it because steroids work by setting up a false immune system, and when your body's natural immune system tries to kick back into action, it gets messed up and can't handle certain things. Diabetes can also cause thrush. If it IS thrush, if the doctor can't tie it in to use of antibiotics or steroids, you might want to have a complete physical to see if there's any other underlying health issues that could have caused it.

I couldn't really say what it is. No one here can really do that for you. This forum is really chronic pain patients helping and supporting each other. Honestly, though, it doesn't sound like it's an oral cancer. I think you're pretty young for that and I don't think it generally presents the way it is for you.
Did the Urgent Care doctor give you a diagnosis? It almost sounds like something viral. My kids had the Cocksackie (not sure if that's the spelling) virus when they were little. I know it can cause sores in the mouth and throat and can be very painful. Adults can also get it, though probably not as commonly. I'm not suggesting that's what you have, but it could be something viral.
Surely your dentist has time set aside for emergencies. Call them and let them know you're in terrible pain. If they can't see you, maybe they can suggest someone for you to see. You may also want to try to get in to see your primary care doctor as it could be something other than a dental issue.
You could also return to Urgent Care and tell them the pain is intolerable and maybe they'll give you something to hold you over a day or two. Have you tried any ibuprofen or tylenol? Sometimes that can help. I would suggest, though, no matter how tempting, to avoid poking at things, especially with a toothpick. You could wind up aggravating things even more.
I hope you'll be able to get some relief soon. Again, call your dentist and primary care doctor in the morning and let them know how bad it is. They shouldn't make you wait all week to be seen.
**** upadate*** I also can not feel my gums when i poke them with a tooth pick on the upper right side where all the problems are
I am in Wisconisin and have looked foe several Emergency dentists to no avail .. mostly because I have state insurance. I can't see my primary doc until an appointment becomes available in the week. I've already been to a walk in and they gave me antibiotics w/ no pain meds.My dentist office also only has office hours durring the week and no after hours emergency. Does it sound like a kind of oral cancer?
I'm not sure where you're located, but it kind of sounds like this is more than a dental issue. How long has it been going on. What kind of doctor gave you the antibiotics? Do you have a primary care doctor? Do you have a regular dentist? It's possible you have more than one thing going on. If you don't feel like you can wait until tomorrow for the dentist, you could see if your dentist has anyone on for emergencies or you could check to see if there's a dental school nearby. I know there's one in Boston that is open 24/7 and handle emergencies and maybe there's something similar near you.
You could also try the ER. Years ago I had a terrible toothache on a weekend. I went to the ER and was given antibiotics and some pain killers until I could see my dentist on Monday.
In the meantime, you might want to try some Advil or Extra Strength Tyelnol for some of the pain, along with ice packs to see if it can relieve some of your pain.
