Legs are going numb

I had a compression fracture on my lower back 4.5 years ago. Shortly after i got home from the hospital i was laying on my back in bed and stretch my legs. After that my right leg went numb almost like it fell asleep. It was doing this for a few days accompanied with tingeling in my leg. So i went to my Doc and he gave me prednisone and shortly after that it went back to normal. I'm not shure if it was due to the meds or just time. I now have it again with the exception that i dont have to do anything except laying on my back. That is when it goes numb again. I will check with my Doc in a few days. I just wondered if anybody had experience with this?. It goes numb and tingles quite a bit. I would not say it hurts but is very uncomfortable. Thanks for any input on this. Thanks, F1swede

Hey! This happend once before about 2 weeks after my fracture on my T-12-L1. My Doc then gave prednisone and i think that helped. I know it did not get worse. This time it's a little different from last time. All i need to do now is lay on my back in bed and the thigh goes completly numb and even after getting up it stay's like that for a while. I will go in to my Doc and see what he has to say. When using prednisone and that helps any guess on what this can be. Thanks Tuck, Swede

Hi f1swede,

I haven't seen you for while.Welcome back. It's it good to hear from you but not so good that you are having neurological symptoms.

"Back backs" run in my family. Many of them have or have had numbness and tingling in one leg or another. I have it also but mine comes from a very bad sacroiliac joint. The symptoms you describe does sound like a nerve entrapment but I am not a physician. Obviously you should see your PCP for clinical evaluation. If you do have  nerve entrapment a determination needs to be made as to why you have it.

The prednisone (steroid) you had is very effective in reducing inflammation and swelling. Once you reduce the inflammation and swelling sometimes you can relieve the nerve entrapment. Another therapeutic course of steroids may be effective for you.

Please don't be gone so long and let us know how you are doing.
Peace, Tuck

Hi f1swede:

You definitly have a nerve that is causing  that is causing you trouble. What does your Doctor say about this?? It can de a very dangerous sign that something is very wrong. Don't let it go un-noticed. You know, when I see my Doctor, that is the first thing he checks. He says it is a very bad sign if I have numbness and tingling in my legs.
